The SV Composter™ (Stationary Vessel)

In-Vessel Systems

ECS offers two types of In-Vessel Systems:

  • the SV Composter™ (stationary vessels built to almost any size up to 700 yd3); and·
  • the CV Composter™ (containerized 40 yd3 vessels for use with roll-off truck chassis).

SV Composter 5 to no upper limit tons a day MSW, SSO, BS Weather limitations: None Excellent control of air emissions, vectors, surface water

The SV Composter™ is primarily suited for medium-to-large scale composting facilities that are located on odor-sensitive sites, require excellent process control, and have tipping fees above $50 USD/ton. Because of the higher cost of the in-vessel systems, they are typically used for primary composting with retention times ranging from 14-25 days.

The SV's advanced control system and unique aeration design optimizes compost stabilization and pathogen reduction rates, while capturing and dramatically reducing VOC, GHG and odor emissions. The CompTroller aeration control and monitoring system requires little or no operator intervention during composting and automatically records pertinent data for every compost batch.

The SV Composter™ has the following features:

  • Very clean appearance
  • Excellent odor and VOC/GHG emission control
  • Efficient footprint
  • Low labor requirements
  • Excellent process control
  • Ease of operation in extreme climates
  • Reversing aeration to reduce temperature stratification in the vessel
  • Recirculating aeration to keep the biomass warm and saturated during the process
  • Insulated vessel walls, ceiling and floors to ensure consistent biomass temperatures

The SV Composter is a stationary in-vessel system made with site-built insulated concrete vessels. The vessels have been made with both formed/poured walls and ceiling; and pre-stressed concrete panels brought to the site and assembled using a crane.

The insulated vessel doors have stainless steel interiors and aluminum exterior covers. The doors are lifted onto an overhead track and slide from side to side to completely open the vessel and avoid damage to the door.

The vessels are typically loaded using Front End-Loaders (FEL), however they can also be loaded using vessel loading conveyors. The vessels are unloaded using a FEL.

The aeration components and control system are located at the back of the vessels in an Aeration Hallway. Heat from the vessels keeps the hallway warm even in extreme cold conditions.

The Low-Friction In-Floor aeration system is formed into the vessel floor and covered with a stainless steel cover. The aeration system provides even air distribution and collects Leachate/Condensate from the biomass. The Leachate/Condensate is drained to a collection point (sump) located before the aeration fan.

The fan room is located behind the vessels. A shared wall keeps this room warm during the coldest winters.

SV Composter™ vessels can be filled with specialized vessel loading conveyors or with Front End Loaders
